Seasick Steve

Seasick Steve is a phenomenal American blues performer. He started his career with a “Three Sting Trance Wonder” – a cheap guitar from the pawnshop, which had only 3 strings on it. But for him, it was enough to get international recognition.

Steve, was born in Oakland, California in 1941. He began playing music at a young age and eventually became a session musician. And he was playing on records for artists such as Janis Joplin and Pink Floyd. In the 1980s, he became homeless and began busking on the streets of Paris, playing a variety of instruments, including the cigar box guitar.

The cigar box guitar is a type of stringed instrument that is typically made from a cigar box, a piece of wood for the neck, and one or more strings. The sound of the instrument is often described as raw and primitive, with a distinctive twangy tone.

Seasick Steve has become known for his energetic live performances, often playing the cigar box guitar with a slide and stomping his feet to create a percussive beat. He has released several albums featuring his unique brand of blues music, including “Dog House Music” and “Sonic Soul Surfer.”

Overall, Seasick Steve’s use of the cigar box guitar has helped to bring attention to this unusual instrument and has inspired many other musicians to try their hand at building and playing their own homemade guitars.
